For the past decade, St. Leonard’s Ministries, a halfway home in Chicago, has been offering a poetry writing class to newly reformed inmates. ‘Finding Freedom: Poetry and Portraits of Former Inmates’ is a collection of over 80 handwritten poems and portraits from this class. Collected over a seven-year period, the poems and portraits invite viewers into a world few are invited to enter as the residents share their thoughts and feelings experienced while on the path of finding freedom. The portraits were taken by Chicago photographer Sandro and funding for the book was raised on Kickstarter and personal donations.
